§ 01.02Class 4 hail-rated — TX hail belt

Class 4 shingles. The math your carrier already wrote.

Most Texas carriers discount the wind-and-hail line 10 to 35% for a hail-rated roof. The exact number depends on your ZIP and policy form. We install the spec and hand you the carrier form at close. We won't push the upgrade if the math doesn't pencil for your house.

Ranges are based on the documented 10–35% discount band most Texas-licensed carriers apply to the wind-and-hail portion of a homeowner premium. Exact percentage depends on policy form, ZIP, and underwriting — confirm with your agent. The carrier discount form is the certificate we hand off at install.

The shingles we install

Three hail-rated brands. Pick the one that fits the house.

All three pass the top hail-impact test and qualify for the Texas insurance discount — that part is the same across the row. The difference is the reinforcement chemistry, the warranty stack, and the climate the shingle was tuned for. We pick the one that fits your county, your house, and how long you plan to own it.

Best for: Most TX hail-belt homes

Owens Corning Duration Storm

Polymer-fabric reinforced architectural

A reinforced polymer-fabric strip runs across the nail zone. That zone is where wind-uplift fails on standard architectural shingles; the fabric strip raises the threshold. Pairs with the Owens Corning manufacturer warranty when installed by a participating contractor.

130 mph (with starter)
Best in
DFW · Austin · San Antonio
Best for: Multi-storm-season durability

GAF Timberline AS II

Polymer-modified asphalt

GAF Timberline architectural shingle in a hail-rated polymer-reinforced asphalt formulation. Field-proven across DFW and Houston hail seasons. The polymer keeps the shingle flexible through both Texas heat and the occasional Texas freeze.

Reinforcement
Polymer in the asphalt itself
Wind warranty
130 mph (with starter)
Best in
Houston metro · East TX
Best for: Cold-weather flex (Ohio + West TX)

Malarkey Vista AR

SBS rubber-modified asphalt

Malarkey’s SBS rubber-modified formulation. The rubber stays flexible in winter where standard asphalt cracks. If you own a home in our Ohio coverage area or in West Texas where mornings drop below freezing, this is the spec we lead with.

Often paired with extended manufacturer warranties (e.g. TAMKO HailGuard). Our 25-year workmanship warranty sits on top — both registered the day the job closes.

The same storm. Three roofs.

What a 1¾-inch hailstone does to three different roofs.

The shingle in front of the impact is the only thing that changes between these three panels. Same house. Same storm. Same hail size. The point of the upgrade is the panel on the right — the one where the deductible stays in your account and your weekend stays yours.

Standard 3-tabBuilder-grade asphalt
Failed

Granule blowoff. Cracked tabs. Filed claim.

A 1¾-inch hailstone splits the tab. The mat underneath is exposed; UV shortens the rest of the roof from years to months. You file the claim, you pay the deductible, you wait two weeks for the crew.

Class 3 architecturalHail-rated, mid-tier
Damaged

Bruised mat. Life-shortened. Carrier may pay.

The shingle holds together but the asphalt mat is bruised through. Two more seasons before another claim conversation. The carrier may pay; the time is yours regardless.

Class 4 hail-ratedTop-tier, what we install
Survived

No functional damage. No claim filed.

The same hailstone bounces. Forty-eight hours later the only thing different on your roof is the cleaned-out gutters. The carrier discount keeps applying. Your deductible stays in your account.

The honest part: a Class 4 shingle dramatically reduces functional damage from hail at the test size and below. Real hail can be larger. The point of the upgrade is the math on the side of the roof — not a guarantee against the size of storm that totals every spec.

The form your carrier needs

The carrier discount form.
What it is, and why it triggers the discount.

Texas carriers use a specific form (PC068, issued by the Texas Department of Insurance) to apply the hail-rated shingle discount to your policy. We complete it for you at install. Here is what you should know.

01

It is the form your carrier uses to verify the install.

Texas carriers use a specific form to record the installed shingle's hail-impact rating. The form is called PC068 by the Texas Department of Insurance. The carrier needs that form on file to apply the discount to the wind-and-hail line of your premium. We complete it for you the day the job closes.

02

The discount is on the wind-and-hail premium only.

Not the full premium. A homeowners policy splits the wind-and-hail line — the part the hail-rated roof affects — from the rest. Liability, theft, fire. The 10 to 35% range applies to the wind-and-hail line, not the full policy total. That is why this page does not quote a single dollar amount.

03

Eligibility resets when the roof changes.

A repair, a partial replacement, or any change that breaks the hail-rating across the slopes means the carrier may revisit the discount. We document the install with maker photos and lot numbers. Future claims and renewals reference the correct spec.

04

The form is yours — it follows the home.

If you sell, the form transfers with the disclosure packet. The next owner can apply it to their new policy. That is one reason this upgrade adds value at resale. Appraisers and buyer agents recognize the form as a transferable asset.

§ 06Reach the dispatch desk

Run the math against your actual carrier.

A senior estimator on the roof, a copy of your declarations page in hand, and a written compare of a standard architectural roof vs the hail-rated upgrade. We tell you the documented discount range your carrier offers and how long the upgrade takes to pay back for your county.
